Nice book contains lots of information on the people of the Mohawk tribe.
I found a hardback and appreciate the good binding, thicker pages, colorful pictures.

The Mohawk by Nancy Bonvillain is a good introduction for someone who is interested in the histoty and background of the Mohawk. Especialy helpfull are the tips and invitations to further explore given subjects using links on the internet. A nice introduction, although at times taking rather large strides

A worthwhile reference book

I enjoyed the book. I read it at the same time as Emily Auerbach, "Searching for Jane Austen". Both are good in their own way. Auerbach's is much easier to read, not from lack of content but due to a better and more consistent writing style and point of view. Bloom's, like others in his Critical views series, is a collection of assorted authors' views of Austen. If you are an Austen fan you will like/agree with some and not others. This book can be dense and academic, not surprising, as it is written by them, for them. Once I realized this I chose to read it in small doses, a chapter or less at a time. Not a fast read (does it need to be?) but still very much worthwhile, full of valuable insights. I originally obtained it from the library and still opted to buy it afterward (and Auerbach's book), because each fills a different niche and is a useful reference. For the record, I am an Austen fan and not an academic, and willing to work harder for the sake of a fuller understanding.

Disappointing

This book combines a (very) concise biography with several critical essays. The biography was a decent rough sketch of Austen's life and writing compressed into about 30 minutes worth of reading.

The included summaries of Austen's works were hasty and thus vastly oversimplified, to the point of uselessness. They contain several minor errors as well, stupid things that the editor should have caught. Anyone new to Austen could get a better overview reading middle school book reports.

The critiques are at least thought provoking although not exactly to my taste; the one by Brian Wilkie in particular was a magnificent piece of specious sophistry.

If someone needs a quick source for a paper due the next day, the material in this book might be sufficient to make a C, but reading the real thing would be much more satisfying.

Grade 7-10-Crompton presents the background history in his first three chapters, and devotes the bulk of the book to a description of the battle. However, the only two maps are unclear reproductions of old battle drawings and are of extremely limited value. This omission is the most serious, but not the only, flaw here. Waterloo is awkwardly written and contains numerous errors, particularly in dates, and typos. It uses difficult, unexplained vocabulary and historical references ("The head of Cromwell on a pretty woman!," for instance). None of the primary quotes are footnoted. While the book is attractively put together and has many color illustrations and a detailed chronology, these pluses can't save an unsuccessful effort.

d) Actos de servicio (como lavar el automóvil, cortar el césped, hacer la comida, cuidarle en la enfermedad).

e) Toque físico (como tomar la mano, dar abrazos, besos).

Es de suma importancia que cada cónyuge descubra cuál de estos "lenguajes" aprecia más su cónyuge. Es grato y aun necesario "hablar" todos estos lenguajes emocionales para expresar amor a su cónyuge, pero conviene un énfasis especial en aquel que el o ella siente hondamente. Es posible que uno esté amando con un lenguaje que el otro apenas siente o entiende como amor. High School students SHOULD read this book!

First off, the way the Crucible relates to the post-war era and the 1950 McCarthy trials make it a prime choice of reading material for high school students. As a high school student myself, I found the book very interesting as a psychoanalysis of human nature. Arthur Miller has explored the concepts of guilt and hypocrisy in a very unique fashion.
The theme of how a repressed society reacts to hysteria is perused in this drama. My personal belief is that people who entrust their lives to unproven dogma find themselves trapped in a form of repression. This includes the conservative outlook posted by the former reviewer of this book.
Lies, hypocrisy, and lust are themes that teenagers begin to encounter in high school. To refuse them the liberty to have complete access to literature is to lock down the developing, free and independent thinking mind. Thus, the banning and removal of books deemed "inappropiate" by biased standards results in the formation of a repressed society much like the Puritans in the early 1600's.
Ignorance may be bliss for you, but don't punish others because of your biased, uproven religious dogma. Our society will succeed if the next generation is given a chance to use their BRAINS. Our society will fail if the conservative coalition destroys independent thinking.
Conformism is your enemy.

This is not a book that HS students should have to read.

The reason that I say high school students should not be required to read this is becuase of the profanity the cheating and the lying which the book is based on. This was a very trying time in are history but are kids should not have to be subject to reading this kind of material. Is there not another way of teaching this?

Thorough and intellectual

I can't speak highly enough of Bloom's notes in general. They are distinctly different from other summary-type works in that much of the book is critical reviews, while the rest is a structural and thematic analysis. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone enrolled in high level literature classes (such as myself) or anyone who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of the novel, not just a cursory plot summary.
