Gary Chapman en su libro Los cinco lenguajes del amor, observa que hay cinco maneras generales de expresar amor.

a) Palabras de afirmación (como el reconocer logros, elogiar y dar ánimo).

b) Tiempo de calidad (como el escuchar con atención, realizar paseos y viajes juntos).

c) Recibir regalos (como las flores, las joyas y los libros).

d) Actos de servicio (como lavar el automóvil, cortar el césped, hacer la comida, cuidarle en la enfermedad).

e) Toque físico (como tomar la mano, dar abrazos, besos).

Es de suma importancia que cada cónyuge descubra cuál de estos "lenguajes" aprecia más su cónyuge. Es grato y aun necesario "hablar" todos estos lenguajes emocionales para expresar amor a su cónyuge, pero conviene un énfasis especial en aquel que el o ella siente hondamente. Es posible que uno esté amando con un lenguaje que el otro apenas siente o entiende como amor. Si a cierta esposa lo que más le hace sentirse amada son las palabras de afirmación, no le será tan importante que todos los días su esposo le regale algo material, sin elogiarle o animarla verbalmente.

Recommended for teenage girls.

I thought this book was an interesting read, however it was difficult to finish at times. What made me continue to finish the book was the beautiful way Maya Angelou writes. I found her story to be a bit dry and slow at times. However, her preserverance to become successful in life dispite her many obstacles kept me interested in this book. If I had not known how successful Maya Angelou's life turned out, I might not have finished the book. I was interested in knowing her journey. I recommend this book for teenage girls who are struggling with self-esteem issues and teen pregnancy because Maya Angelou's story can be used as a great encouragement to hang in there despite adversity.

Inspiring Story of the Great Poet's Childhood

I truly enjoyed Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings". One of the most gifted poets of our time, Ms Angelou tells the story of her life, beginning with the time she was three and put on a train to go live with their grandmother in Arkansas and ending when she has a child of her own at sixteen.

Ms Angelou's wit and honesty, along with her ability to describe the people and events that shaped who she is, made it hard for me to put this book down. Not only did I learn about her life, but her words made me stop and take a look at who I am as well.

I highly recommend this book, and urge people who read it to also pick up a volume of her poetry.
